AlbedoESG & Sustainability Jobs
Satellite company building and operating very low Earth orbit (VLEO) spacecraft for high-resolution imaging, RF sensing, and connectivity.
Albedo builds and operates satellites in very low Earth orbit (VLEO), at roughly 275 km altitude - about half the altitude of conventional low Earth orbit constellations. The company designs its own spacecraft buses, integrates payloads, and runs full mission operations. Its first satellite, Clarity-1, launched in March 2025 and demonstrated on-orbit performance including drag management and atomic oxygen mitigation.
Why it matters
VLEO's proximity to Earth produces sharper optical and infrared imagery, stronger radar and lidar signal returns, and lower-latency connectivity without requiring the large, expensive platforms traditionally needed for that performance. For sustainability and climate applications, higher-resolution, more affordable Earth observation directly supports land-use monitoring, deforestation tracking, agricultural assessment, disaster response, and emissions verification - tasks that depend on frequent, detailed satellite data. Albedo's architecture aims to make that data accessible at lower cost than legacy systems.
The company holds contracts with NRO, Space Force, AFRL, NASA, and JPL, and is developing a follow-on VLEO mission called Vicinity. Its team draws from Lockheed Martin, SpaceX, and NASA JPL backgrounds.
