Organization Overview:

The Digital Manufacturing (DM) Team's mission is to simplify processes and experiences to drive Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) outcomes. DM is responsible for the digital transformation of all processes across shop floor, engineering, environment, health, and safety operations. Our programs are led by user experience and design thinking to understand the journeys that our PGS customers work through daily. DM drives efficiencies in end-to-end operations by embedding predictive and prescriptive insights from artificial intelligence into our manufacturing and cross-functional applications.

Role Overview:

Pfizer's purpose, breakthroughs that change patients' lives, is rooted in being a science-driven and patient-focused company. In Digital Manufacturing, we work with our world-class manufacturing facilities to accelerate supply and help get products to patients faster. We do this by driving efficiencies in end-to-end operations through the embedding of predictive and prescriptive insights from artificial intelligence into our manufacturing, quality, and cross-functional applications at Pfizer.

We are seeking a Senior Director of Global Supply Engineering & Sustainment to be part of our Digital Manufacturing Team. The role is pivotal in leading the technical support for manufacturing applications and core platforms, overseeing technology and vendor partnerships, and ensuring strong architecture governance. It's a blend of technical know-how and strategic leadership aimed at boosting manufacturing efficiency and sustainability throughout the company. Additionally, it requires manufacturing domain expertise to meet business objectives. The ideal candidate should be adept at active listening, showing respect, and engaging with diverse perspectives to foster trust and support a positive work environment. This approach is crucial for PGS to deliver effective solutions and back its operations.

Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Operations DevOps (MO DevOps):

  • Design and develop standard DevOps practices for manufacturing operations to improve collaboration, speed, quality of deployment, and continuous support.
  • Foster a culture of continuous integration and continuous deployment with an emphasis on automation and monitoring.

Manufacturing Delivery Practices and Processes:

  • Adopt the PGS scaled agile framework (SaFe) for manufacturing to streamline the application of agile practices throughout PGS, enhancing our ability to deliver PGS business value more efficiently and effectively.
  • Adhere to GMP guidelines and processes to reduce production risks and ensure our outputs align with PGS business requirements.

Architecture Strategy & Governance:

  • Work with stakeholders in the broader Digital organization to develop and articulate Digital Manufacturing's value proposition and target future state technologies and tools with an effective execution architecture strategy along with implementation strategy for all PGS operations (30,000+ colleagues and 300+ external contract manufacturers).
  • Translate corporate Digital and Digital Manufacturing strategies into practical and actionable guidelines for data, integration, and architecture across the Digital Manufacturing solution teams.

Manufacturing Applications Technical Support (L4):

  • Lead the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of mature manufacturing products used in manufacturing operations.
  • Manage a team of specialists providing high-level technical support for L4 manufacturing applications.
  • Mentor and lead teams in advanced troubleshooting techniques, problem-solving skills, and customer service excellence.
  • Establish metrics and monitoring systems to track the performance of technical support initiatives and make data-driven decisions for further improvements.

Core Applications Platform Support:

  • Oversee support teams for core manufacturing platforms, ensuring they meet the organizational needs and are scalable.
  • Collaborate with IT to enhance platform capabilities and integrate new technologies.

Technology & Vendor Strategy Management:

  • Strategically manage multiple global vendor relationships, including contract negotiations and performance evaluations (more than $1M annually).
  • Manage relationships with key technology vendors, ensuring compliance with contracts and achievement of strategic goals.

Leadership:

  • Craft and articulate a clear vision for the integration of sustainable practices and technologies in manufacturing engineering.
  • Plan and direct engineering activities and projects within the organization.
  • Effectively communicate with other senior leaders, stakeholders, and external parties to ensure alignment of technology and business strategies.
  • Represent the manufacturing engineering department in executive decisions and public forums.
  • Ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the team, foster an inclusive culture, and ensure all team members actively contribute to a respectful and equitable workplace.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in manufacturing engineering and delivery, with significant leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in managing enterprise scale manufacturing vendor and in-house applications and core platform support.
  • Strong background in DevOps practices and vendor management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic digital initiatives that integrate with and enhance core manufacturing processes.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Certifications in Project Management (e.g., PMP), Cloud Technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect), or related fields.
  • Expertise in implementing scalable manufacturing solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex technical problems.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.

Additional Information:

  • This role may require occasional travel to sites for team collaboration, stakeholder meetings, and on-site assessments.
